Cortlandt Soccer Club Hosts The Chevy Hudson Valley Classic 2006 !!!

On the weekend of June 17 and 18th  the Cortlandt Soccer Club will host its fifth  annual tournament, the Hudson Valley Classic.  We anticipate this exciting event will draw as many as 80 teams from  Albany, New Jersey, and Connecticut. We expect more than 1200 players in addition to 3,000 to 4,000 spectators to attend this weekend long event. Participation is open to all registered USYSA teams, boys and girls in divisions U10 - U19.  The tournament will take place on five fields at the Hendrick Hudson High School Athletic Field Complex and at other locations.  Matches will be scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day. Individual awards will be presented to all registered players of the winning and second place teams in each division.  One team trophy will be awarded to the winning and second place teams respectively.

A tremendous amount of planning goes into coordinating an effort of this magnitude, considering the size of our club and volunteer base.  The tournament planning committee has been meeting since this summer.  A financially successful tournament is just one of the club's projects to raise monies for a Land Use Fund to purchase or obtain land for a multiple field soccer park.

One of our biggest challenges will be raising money from potential sponsors and through ad sales. The sponsorship committee has been meeting and is developing a plan and target list of potential donors. The tournament committee welcomes any ideas or contacts that a club member may be able to make on behalf of the club to raise monies. The committee hopes that each member family will try to solicit 5 businesses as advertisers in our journal.  Many of your employers would gladly support our effort if asked, and local businesses would gain not only local advertising recognition but also the opportunity to share in this community effort for our youth. The club will also accept any appropriate product donations from any potential vendors.  Please contact Doug McKim, Doug@corltandtsoccerclub.org tournament director.

Our other major challenge will be to ensure adequate volunteer staffing for the weekend of the tournament. The committee is asking for your fullest support to volunteer for as much time as possible for one or both days of the tournament.  We fully understand that you will want to see your children play and will make every effort when assigning duties so that there will be no conflict with your duty schedules and your children's playing times.

The volunteers who help make this tournament run as efficiently and smoothly as possible will ultimately determine the success of this tournament.  We thank you for your support in advance.  Please contact Jonathan Weinstein at 941-1243 if you have any questions regarding the scope of your volunteer commitment at this upcoming tournament.

Please come out and join the fun and help cheer all the Cortlandt teams on, and show your support for the club by volunteering on June 17 and 18.  We promise two fun-filled family event days for all of you!
